How do I provide the Bio-Back for a patient with Medicare?
The Bio-Back is covered by Medicare as a DMEPOS (Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies) item. Only a DMEPOS participating supplier contracted with CMS may bill and be reimbursed by Medicare for the Bio-Back. If you already have your DMEPOS provider number, it is important that you utilize Medicare compliant forms and keep these on file for each Medicare Order (see forms).
If you are not currently a DMEPOS provider, you may obtain an application at the www.cms.gov website or by following this link www.cms.hhs.gov/cmsforms/downloads/cms855s.pdf. You must be an accepted participating provider before you can dispense a Bio-Back to a Medicare Beneficiary and obtain reimbursement.
